Introduction to the AHLA

For over 100 years, the Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association has been helping members prosper. By bringing together Alberta hotels, we can leverage our collective power to:

  • Influence government decision-making.
  • Share knowledge on hospitality industry best practices.
  • Save money on commercial services for hotels.

We are a member-owned association dedicated to serving the accommodation industry in Alberta. The AHLA Board of Directors and staff are committed to your hotel’s success.

The AHLA is proud to be the official safety association for hotels and convention centres in Alberta. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of both your staff and guests. Get access to resources and regular communications to keep you compliant and ahead of industry standards.

Along with our members, we are shaping the future of Alberta's accommodation and lodging sector to create a prosperous environment for all.

Our Proven Process

Our History

The Alberta Hotel Association was formed in 1919 to:

  • Influence the government on questions of prohibition.
  • Counter the criticisms of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.
  • Improve the public image of hotels in the community.
  • Reduce rivalry in the hotel industry.
  • Lobby municipal governments on local taxation matters.
  • Establish common policies regarding staffing, training, work hours, security, and cheque cashing.
  • Organize a common front to address the Bartenders’ Union.

One hundred years later, hotels continue to work together on many of these same issues through the AHLA. The AHLA currently serves over 650 hotels, motels, and inns in Alberta.
