AHLA & El Salvador Partner to Resolve Labour Shortages

The AHLA is pleased to highlight a memorandum of understanding (MOU) we have with the Government of El Salvador.

This partnership provides AHLA members with access to highly trained, experienced accommodation and hospitality workers.

The Consul General of El Salvador in Calgary is working directly with AHLA to resolve labour shortages that many of our members are facing.

AHLA member process for the referral of workers from El Salvador:

• AHLA members will send Alison a job order for positions and # of workers needed
• The job order will include a job description and rate of pay
• The Consulate will send Alison resumes of workers to be considered by the AHLA member, she will send the resumes to the member
• Candidates have experience in most hotel and restaurant positions
• The member will send back the workers they have selected for interviewing
• The Consulate will arrange a time for the workers to be interviewed back-to-back (if more than one worker is selected); a meeting link will also be sent to all parties
• Once interviews have been conducted, the member will send a job offer to Alison and the Consulate for the worker(s) they want to hire
• The job offer will be sent to the worker(s) for agreement and signing by the Consulate
• Once the signed job offer is received by the member, they can add the worker(s) to the LMIA
• The named LMIA and signed Employment contract will be send to the Consulate for processing the work permit for each worker
• The work permit will be processed by the Ministry of Labour in El Salvador
• Work permits will be employer specific (hotel will be named on the approved permit) and will be valid for 2 years
• Once approved, flights will need to be booked by the member
• Travel, settlement costs and housing are the responsibility of the member
• Follow up and support through-out the duration of the work placement will be provided by the Consul General and Alison should any issues or concerns arise
