The AHLA recognizes the importance of working with all levels of government to protect and promote our members' interests. To ensure that government policy, regulations, and legislation respect the issues and trends that affect our industry, the AHLA monitors provincial and federal government activity and prepares and presents briefs in three key areas:
Tourism
- Alberta Tourism, Parks & Recreation
- Travel Alberta
- Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC)
- Alberta Finance and Enterprise
- Taxation
- Tourism Levy
- Destination Marketing Fees (DMF)
- Exemptions for 28 consecutive guest nights
Labour & Immigration
- Alberta Employment & Immigration
- Canada Immigration & Citizenship (CIC)
- Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC)
- Human Resources & Skills Development Canada (HRSDC)
Liquor & Gaming
- Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission
- ProServe (formerly ASIP)
The AHLA monitors and has input into federal and provincial legislation that impacts our members, such as:
- Alberta Public Health
- Public Health Act
- Tobacco Reduction Act
- Swimming Pool, Wading Pool & Water Spray Park Regulation and Pool Standards
- Employment Standards Act through Alberta Employment & Immigration
- Service Dogs Act
- SOCAN Tariffs
- Federal and provincial privacy acts, including PIPA and PIPEDA
- Fire Code
- Human Rights
